The treatise deals with one of the most significant Baroque sculptures in Pilsen; namely, the column with a statue representing the Virgin Mary (Madonna) of Pilsen, added with statues of other saints, standing on the Square of the Republic. In addition to providing a description of that landmark, the authors depict the circumstances of the column's origin in 1680-1681 and give an account of all known repairs the column had undergone in the course of its existence up to now. The presented data are basedon the archival research carried out by the authors. Preceded by an original 1681 copperplate engraving of the column, the accompanying images include several hitherto mostly unpublished or less known historic photographs.
