The Hamilton Brothers. Aristocratic Hunting Paintings in the 18th century
Original language description
The aim of this monograph is primarily to try to reconstruct the life of the painters Johann Georg de Hamilton (1672-1737) and his brother Philipp Ferdinand (1664–1750) to show their works preserved in the collections of Bohemian and Moravian castles and country houses (Hluboká, Slatiňany, Český Krumlov, Horšovský Týn, Třeboň, Milotice), administered by the National Heritage Institute. Mainly paintings preserved by the Liechtenstein family and in Viennese collections were used as comparative material. Hamilton brothers were members of the extensive, originally Scottish family. Main part of this book clarifies the circumstances of their work for Prince Adam Franz von Schwarzenberg.
