Transport of Oversized Cargo in the Czech Republic – Critical Places on the Route from the Perspective of Road Infrastructure and Traffic Safety
Original language description
The aim of the paper is to familiarize the reader with the routes most frequently used for transporting oversize cargo in the Czech Republic and to describe critical places on these routes from the perspective of road infrastructure (road construction) with regard to road safety and traffic flow fluency. Apart from the specific routes, the introductory part of this paper also presents important legislation and laws that individual carriers must comply with, as well as special types of heavy haulage vehicles constructed to carry oversize loads. In addition, some representative critical places on the presented routes having a negative impact on vehicle safety and fluent transit are identified. In the final part of the paper, several design measures for these critical places are recommended. The main goal of these measures is to increase road safety and to ensure the comfort of passing vehicles carrying oversize cargo at every point of the route.
