    Influence of dimensional and material devices of cross-section on the axial and flexural strength of steel members

    The bearing capacity of steel members and their cross-sections is influenced by geometrical - dimensional and material - strength variations, which are randomly variable. The actual design standards take this into account by characteristic or nominal values yield strength, design cross-sectional dimensions and partial reliability factors of the material to ensure adequate reliability of the proposed structures. There is still insufficient knowledge of the actual geometrical and material deviations and the results of the evaluation of their implications for the reliability of the design of steel structures according to the relevant standards. Therefore, there is not enough relevant technical documentation to justify the specification of the relevant standards according to the current level of material quality and the production of steel structures. Partial, but very valuable knowledge of the occurrence and consequences of the geometrical and material deviations in question can also be obtained in the framework of specific experimental researches and verifications of the real effect of steel structures. This paper presents and evaluates selected knowledge and results of investigations of geometric and material deviations of welded bent and compressed steel members - beams and columns, which the first author of this paper carried out in his previous experimental studies of steel structures. The influence of the detected deviations is analyzed on the example of calculation of axial and bending resistance of the cross-section of the selected member by probabilistic procedures as well as by standard method according to EN 1993-1-1 (CSN EN 1993-1-1).
