Optimisation of Distribution Routes for Branch Office of Česká pošta, s.p. (Czech Post)
Original language description
The paper is concerned with the optimisation of distribution routes for a branch office of the Czech Post. The distribution routes are carried out for this post office by means of circular trips of vehicles. To optimise the distribution routes, the vehicle routing problem was solved using the Clarke-Wright method. This method was applied to design new distribution routes saving 7.65% of kilometres travelled as compared to the original distribution routes. If the distribution routes were modified as designed, the monthly saving of the kilometres travelled would achieve approximately 128 km. In light of the results achieved, it was concluded that the optimisation of distribution routes for particular branch offices of the Czech Post (Česká pošta, s.p.) could have represented the method how to achieve a substantial saving in total costs of the company.
