Remote sensing assessment of the thermal regime in and urban landscape for adaptation pathways
Original language description
This study explores the potential of airborne multi-sensor mapping to provide the type of detailed informationnthat will make it possible for urban planners to make informed decisions concerning mitigation andnadaptation strategies in response to increasing urban temperatures. The focus has been paid to the thermalnproperties of different urban elements under an extreme summer heat spell. A classification of urbannelements was derived from and based on hyperspectral and Lidar airborne data acquired over the city ofnBrno during midday. Results show the detailed information content of processed data both on the level ofnadministrative units at various scales (e.g. whole cadastre, town districts, and smaller urbanistic units) asnwell as at higher spatial detail in the identification of thermal properties of individual elements, such asnbuilding roofs, trees, open water bodies, etc. The resulting digital maps have already been integrated intonthe town’s geographical information system and can be used by specialists for town planning. These mapsnhave also become accessible to the public as layers in the Brno map server.
