Response of beech and fir in the Carpathians and Dinarides

  • Original language description

Mixed fir-beech forests are an essential component of Central and South-Eastern European Forest ecosystems and landscapes. Vegetation changes in the Carpathian forests can be attributed to various processes, such as air pollution and the competitive influence of tree seedlings. Of particular interest is how silver fir will cope with recent climate trends. Our aim was to compare the light responses of beech and fir in the Carpathian and Dinaric Mountains (1), and to verify the relationship between climatic parameters and light response along both complexes (2).
