Black carbon (BC) absorbs very effectively radiation over the entire visible spectrum (from near-UV to near-IR), while brown carbon (BrC) absorbs predominantly in the ultraviolet (UV) band and the short visible wavelength (Bon et al., 2013, Drinovec et al. 2015, Leskinen et al., 2020). The absorption Ångström exponent (AAE) describes the wavelength dependence of light absorption by aerosols and can be used to differentiate between different aerosol types (black and brown carbon) and sources (fossil fuel and biomass burning). This study investigates the size dependence of AAE of aerosols from ndifferent sources at a rural background site.
