Participation of the Czech Republic in the STAR experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory, U.S.A.
Project goals
Goal of the proposed project is to provide a continuous support for the activities of the Czech group in the STAR experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory, U.S.A. Experiment STAR studies proton-proton collisions and properties of nuclear matter underconditions of extreme temperatures and energy densities in heavy-ion collisions at energies up to 200 GeV per nucleon-nucleon pair at center of mass. Experimental programme at RHIC confirmed existence of a new state of nuclear matter with properties close to those of ideal liquid. The purpose of this project is a detailed study of properties of this new state of nuclear matter using hard probes: particles with large transverse momentum, jets, and heavy flavour. Another focus of the project is an upgrade of the STAR experiment by a new detector HFT (Heavy Flavor Tracker). Development of tools for optimization of data transfer and their distributed management is also proposed.

Project results evaluation
In the project INGO LA09013 of MSMT, the scientific teams from NPI ASCR and FNSPE CTU participated in studies of hot and dense nuclear matter in the international experiment STAR at RHIC, USA. Studies of heavy quark production, jets and correlation femtoscopy were performed. The results were presented at many international conferences and published in refereed scientific journals.
