University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings – Sustainability Phase

Project goals

The project aims at provision of sustainability for the already established University Centre for Energy Efficient Building, Czech Technical University. Its objective is to continue in the holistic, interdisciplinary approach to sustainable construction by combining knowledge from civil engineering, energetics, electrical engineering and biomedicine. In the scope of the project, the infrastructure of the Centre will be used, which was constructed under the support of ECF, to gain new knowledge in the fields of sustainable development, physics of building construction elements, materials for construction, technical building equipment, smart automation, but also in the field of ageing population or to provide healthy indoor environment. In the scope of the project, intense regional and international cooperation will also continue. Student of all levels of study will be supported during the implementation of their student works, the researchers will be suported in their research projects and the operation of the centre will be ensured, such that the Centre is fully self-sustained after 2020, with a full international renomé developed, and such that it is based on new international and national projects. In the meantime, part of the activities will be dedicated to new and continuing cooperation with the private sector, both in the Czech Republic and abroad.

The University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings of the CTU (UCEEB) has successfully completed the project of the National Sustainability Programme UCEEB ++. UCEEB was founded in 2012 and financed from the structural funds, in 2016–2020 the UCEEB ++ project helped with its stabilization. In this period, UCEEB has become a leading research center in the field of sustainable construction, has reached the number of approximately 200 employees at 140 FTEs and with a budget of CZK 180 million annually, it has ca. 200 projects in cooperation with partners from practice. Its most successful results include, for example, various innovations for renewable energy resources, methods for sustainable construction, research of natural materials or close cooperation with cities and. Its S.A.W.E.R. project, a device for obtaining water from the air for desert conditions, developed for the Czech pavilion at the EXPO 2020 exhibition in Dubai, attracts a lot of public attention.
