Study of barley polyphenoloxidase diversity in relation to quality and production stability
Project goals
Within the conducted project, original and priority knowledge about a gene structure for selected oxidoreductases (polyphenoloxidases) in barley on a level of DNA sequences and/or their allelic forms in the barley collection with characterized traits andproperties will be obtained. Then, sets of diagnostic primers for detection of diversity in examined genes will be designed and verified that are required for genotyping and selection of gene resources. Furthermore, methods for quantitative assessment of expression of the examined genes using qRT-PCR on barley grain and plants will be proposed and applied. A special collection of gene resources with characterized traits and selected properties (agronomic, nutritional and malting) affecting production quality and use will be created.

Project name in Czech
Studium diverzity vybraných polyfenoloxidáz ječmene ve vztahu ke kvalitě a stabilitě produkce.

Project results evaluation
The goal was to obtain novel findings on the genetic diversity of barley and to establish a method of determining quantitative expression aimed at genes influencing the phenolic compound content. This results in a tool for the targeted use of genetic sources of barley for cultivation and the use of production.
