Enhancement of the quality of consumption potatoes and their competitivness with reduction of occurence of plant pathogenic bacteria Streptomyces genera

Project goals

Streptomyces scabies is considered the predominant causal agent of common scab of potato. However, similar but not identical symptoms are caused on potato tubers by other Streptomyces species. Various plant pathogenic Streptomyces species differ in several important characteristics such as cultivar reactions to their attack, the capacity to attack different underground parts of the potato plants, and requirements on environment (soil moisture and temperature). Therefore it is important to adapt the control methods to the density and structure of plant pathogenic Streptomyces population in the soil from case to case. The objectives of this research is to (i) investigate whether common scab of potatoes in the Czech republic is caused by one or severalStreptomyces species; (ii) examine whether Streptomyces spp. other than Streptomyces scabies occur and cause netted scab of potato on the territory of Bohemia and Moravia; (iii) test the reaction of potato cultivars to various plant pathogenic streptomyc

Zvýšení kvality konzumních brambor a jejich konkurenceschopnosti redukcí výskytu fytopatogenních bakterií rodu Streptomyces

  • Project results evaluation

The results prove that research aim of the plan has been fulfilled. New information about identification and current dissemination of Streptomyces scabiei on potato tuber had been identified and ways how to solve the problem were proposed. All outputs ofthe project were sucsesfully presented at scientific level.
