Polyploidy, ecological niche and demographic development of the wetland annual plant species Cyperus fuscus

Project goals

Aim and questions We aim at determining the distribution of diploid and tetraploid populations of the Isoëto-Nanojuncetea species Cyperus fuscus and the respective ecological niches of the two cytotypes in the central European region comprising Austria,the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Moreover, we aim at documenting historical demographic changes in populations of Cyperus fuscus. The specific questions to be answered are: (1) What is the distribution of diploid and tetraploid populations of Cyperus fuscus in Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia? (2) Are diploids and tetraploids ecologically segregated? Do diploids and tetraploids occupy different ecological niches? (3) How have populations of Cyperus fuscus been affected historically in the studyregion?

    Cíle a otázky Naším cílem je vymezit rozšíření diploidních a tetraploidních populací druhu Cyperus fuscus (třída Isoëto-Nanojuncetea) a ekologickou niku obou cytotypů ve středoevropském prostoru, který zahrnuje Rakousko, Českou republiku a Slovensko. Kromě toho se zaměříme na zdokumentování historických demografických změn v populacích Cyperus fuscus. Specifické otázky, na které budeme hledat odpověď: (1) Jaké je rozšíření diploidních a tetraploidních populací druhu Cyperus fuscus v Rakousku, České Republice a na Slovensku? (2) Jsou diploidi a tetraploidi ekologicky odlišní a osídlují rozdílné niky? (3) Jak byly populace druhu Cyperus fuscus ve studované oblasti historicky ovlivněny?
