Z hlediska základního výzkumu je cílem předloženého projektu, metodami funkční proteomiky osvětlit některé nepoznané aspekty biologie trichinel, a to zejména T. pseudospiralis, která je v tomto ohledu méně prozkoumaným modelem než T. spiralis. Projekt si klade za záměr také odhalit doposud skryté zákonitosti v genotypech parazitických hlístic rodu Trichinella a molekulárně prověřit taxonomickou příslušnost izolátů pocházejících z různých oblastí Jižní Ameriky. Výstupem projektu by také mělo být jasné definování potenciálních referenčně-diagnostických proteinových antigenních molekul pro oba druhy trichinel a jejich uplatnění v nepřímé imunodiagnostice.
