Large Eddy and System Simulation to predict Cyclic Combustion Variability in gasoline engines

  • Annotation in Czech

The objective of LESSCCV is to exploit the recent possibilities of engine computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools to fundamentally improve the understanding of cyclic combustion variability (CCV) in spark ignition (SI) engines and to provide adequate modeling. Multi-scale CFD tools, which are able to study in detail the sources of CCV, will be developed. These tools will be achieved by coupling 1D-CFD codes with 3D-CFD ones. The latter will apply innovative Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) technique, whichcan accurately reproduce the cycle resolved flow inside the combustion chamber. The resulting improved understanding of CCV in SI engines will be capitalized in the form of models able to reproduce the characteristics and effects of CCV in multi-cycle 1D-CFD simulations of operating points subjected to cyclic variability. Finally, improved industrial 1D-CFD codes will be applied in case studies aimed at demonstrating the benefits from a better prediction of CCV.

Completed project evaluation

  • Provider evaluation

U - Uspěl podle zadání (s publikovanými či patentovanými výsledky atd.)

  • Project results evaluation

Following the condition that the candidate of financial contribution was evaluated and afterwards selected by international provider in accordance with the rules of the program the Ministry of Education, Youth ans Sports does not realize the evaluation of project results. The project is evaluated only after its approval by an international provider.
