Big data pRocessing and Artificial Intelligence at the Network Edge
Annotation in Czech
The BRAINE's overall aim is to boost the development of the Edge framework and specifically energy-efficient hardware and AI-empowered software systems, capable of processing Big Data at the Edge, performing AI functions, supporting security, data privacy and sovereignty. Aim 1 is to test and demonstrate the effectiveness and generality of the BRAINE approach to Edge computing, the innovative computing architectures for embedded and autonomous operation with an emphasis on AI-assisted functions by evaluating multiple real-world use cases and scenarios that exhibit the required scalability, security, efficiency, agility, and flexibility concerns. Aim 2 is to construct EC infrastracture that offers control, computing, acceleration, storage, and 5G networking at the Edge and excels in scalability, agility, security, data privacy, and data sovereignty in Big Data and AI for low latency and mission-critical applications. Aim 3 is to develop a future proof Edge security framework and associated infrastructure based on the latest software and hardware security technologies. Aim 4 is to develop a distrubuted and autonomous system that takes data privacy and sovereignty into account on each and every decision regarding workload placement, data transfer, and computation while guaranteeing interoperability with the environment. Aim 5 is to develop a heterogenous, energy-efficient Edge MicroDataCenter, suitable standalone and for embedded autonomous applications, that goes beyond the current hardware and software architectures and offers Big Data processing and AI capabilities at the Edge.

ČVUT contibuted to the architecture of the BRAINE platform in work packages WP3 and WP4. In the WP5 package, ČVUT was responsible for the implementation of the UC3 case study focusing on robotics and Industry 4.0. The implemented solution was verified on the experimental infrastructure in the Testbed for Industry 4.0. The proposed solution has the potential to become a platform for deployment and use in practice, especially in production control systems, where there is a requirement for easy reconfiguration of the distribution of production means and for the speed of processing changes in the production or technological procedures.
