Stability analysis of cable stayed and suspension bridges

Project goals

Suspension and cable stayed bridges are frequent in civil engineering. Their advantages are the easy erection and economic efficiency. On the other hand they sometimes suffer form certain instabilities especially in wind. The main goal of this project isto formulate complex models of cable stayed and suspension bridges which describe vertical and torsion oscillations of the deck, oscillations of the pylons and behavior of the stressed cables. The analysis of these models makes possible to detect the sources of instabilities and eliminate or at least reduce these instabilities.

Analýza stability zavěšených a visutých mostů

The model describing the behavior of the main cables, which are attached to the vertical cables connected to the deck, was developed. The main cables, on which the deck rests, are fastened in the middle by bounds which prevent movement of the main cablesin the direction along the deck. In the case one band loosens, the whole system becomes strongly asymmetric, which may result in torsion oscil
