Numerical analysis of ion flux and concentration for high-efficiency detection of signal electrons in ESEM/A-ESEM
Annotation in Czech
Fundamental research on electron/ion-gas-solid interactions, in particular the generation, multiplication and high-efficiency detection of secondary, backscattered and transmitted electrons under conditions of controlled positive ion concentration and flow, will be studied using numerical simulations. The new ion-tracing module of our enhanced Monte-Carlo software for Advanced Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy (A-ESEM) will use output data from dedicated simulation programs. To validate the results of the numerical simulations, new scintillation-ionisation signal electron detectors (GSESD and G-STEM) will be designed with the highest detection efficiency to date for backscattered electrons emitted from bulk samples. The new method for the detection of electrons transmitted through a thin sample (G-STEM) will push the limits of high-resolution imaging under A-ESEM conditions. The results of the project will provide unique insights into the study of immunolabelled surface nano-layers of chromosomes and micro- to nanoparticles of plastics in biological samples.
