This project explores the feasibility of cross-linguistic comparisons of constructional idioms—partially lexically filled syntactic structures with open slots—by integrating the onomasiological approach borrowed from typological studies with the traditionally pursued semasiological approach in developing constructional networks. The empirical foundation of this research consists of phrases featuring reduplicated imperatives and subjunctives, extracted from large written corpora of Italian, Spanish, and Czech. Through a thorough analysis of their morphological, syntactic, and pragmatic features, as well as their formal and functional overlaps across the three languages, these structures will be organized into language-specific networks and subsequently serve as a test case for developing (a) constructional network(s) enabling cross-linguistic comparison. The empirical findings and conceptual framework will contribute to theoretical advancements in contrastive construction grammar and comparative phraseological research.
