Ecology of the interactions between European mistletoe and its native and non-native hosts
Annotation in Czech
Hemiparasitic European mistletoe (Viscum album L.) interacts with a wide range of hosts, including native and non-native trees, and is considered a pest in forestry and urban landscapes. However, little is known about how mistletoe-host interactions vary between native and non-native species. This project explores V. album parasitic relationships in Eastern and Central Europe (Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Ukraine), to understand the ecological, physiological, and biochemical mechanisms involved. Our study will approach the topic on multiple levels: from landscape and metapopulation scales to individual hosts and mistletoe germination. The outcomes will contribute to a better understanding of mistletoe ecology with implications for forest management, landscape design, and pest control strategies.
