Manipulating light in integrated photonic structures through bound states in the continuum

  • Annotation in Czech

The bound state in the continuum (BIC) represents a new paradigm for an efficient energy trapping with vanishing leakage in general wave systems. This theoretical project aims at BICs in integrated photonic structures, where BICs offer innovative, still not exploited ways for efficient control of light. We suggest investigation of problems that have not been addressed yet: research on BICs in promising dielectric and hybrid nanophotonic waveguides and their coupled systems, search for new types of BICs with subwavelength localization and enhanced light-matter interaction, exploration of their topological properties, and application in design of new functional elements with BICs for effective light manipulation. The approach should significantly improve performance of currently proposed waveguide modulators with BICs. The results will pave the way to development of a new generation of integrated nanophotonic structures for enhancing nonlinear and quantum effects.
