Improved Quantum Sensing with Chemically Optimized Nanodiamonds
Annotation in Czech
Quantum sensing is a new area of research that spans many scientific and industrial fields, including chemistry, biochemistry, biology, and medicine. Nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in nanodiamonds (NDs) are promising for room-temperature detection of magnetic and electric fields, but their performance is hindered by surface-induced spin relaxation, charge instability, and lack of selective surface chemistry, limiting their sensitivity and specificity. The project addresses these issues by exploring ND novel conductive and functional surface terminations, size, and surface effects on NV charge dynamics and systematically studying charge transfer and environmental influences. By integrating advanced spectroscopy, quantum optical methods, and surface engineering, we will create chemically tailored NDs with stabilized NV centers, enabling highly sensitive and selective quantum sensing in biological and biomedical environments. The outcomes will expand quantum sensing applications toward real-time intracellular quantum sensing and voltage-based detection.
