High-entropy alloys as next-generation electrocatalysts for electrochemical energy conversion
Annotation in Czech
Developing next-generation materials is essential for efficient, sustainable electrochemical energy conversion. While bi- and trimetallic alloys have identified promising candidates for that call that outperform benchmark single-metal catalysts, further improvements are needed beyond what these alloys can offer. This project explores high-entropy alloys (HEAs), a novel class of multi-element electrocatalysts with unique properties unattainable by conventional alloys, for oxygen reduction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reactions (OER). HEAs hold immense promise for electrocatalysis, yet their development is still in its infancy. Their main advantage, multi-element composition, offers unique properties but also introduces significant challenges. In this project, we address these challenge using a systematic and rigorous methodology and cutting-edge equipment to advance the fundamental understanding of the HEAs composition-activity-stability relationship, which is vital for the rational design of advanced electrocatalyst for electrochemical energy conversion.
