Quantum sensing and metrology with rotor-like quantum systems

  • Annotation in Czech

The project aims to establish and expand the fundamental theoretical framework for quantum technologies beyond conventional pairs of complementary observables, such as position and momentum. The research will focus—though not exclusively—on developing analogous tools for quantum rotors, characterized by the complementary pair of angular momentum and the unitary angular shift operator. The program will involve defining appropriate uncertainty measures, formulating and applying optimal simultaneous measurement strategies for complementary observables, and advancing phase-space methods, including the Wigner function, while leveraging machine learning techniques for data analysis. The feasibility of proof-of-principle experimental demonstrations will be explored across various physical platforms, such as pulse shaping and detection in optics or the readout of superconducting circuits with Josephson junctions. The Czech-Taiwanese team’s work could enable new quantum metrology approaches and unlock previously unexplored degrees of freedom for communication and sensing applications.
