Analysis and modelling biomedical and speech signals
Project goals
The proposed project aims towards an understanding of the principles of mathematical modelling of biological and speech signals, and applications of the mathematical methods to research problems of the individual PhD thesis. The basic theme of the project refers to previous collaboration between Department of Circuit Theory, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Department of Phoniatrics, First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University Prague. The collaboration is focused on development of new diagnosticmethods in disorders of the central nervous systém that have speech disruption symptoms. The project solution is related to a number of diverse tasks such as database collection, labelling, and modern statistical methods of unique signal database, objectification of speech fluency diagnostic methods, automatic phonetic-phonology age assesment, speech rate measurement, and development of novel algorithms for signal analysis and digital processing of signals acquired in audiological, phoniatrics, logopedics, and neurological experiments and examination. The use and development of DSP algorithms for signal detection and classification with methods based on the signal decomposition, hidden Markov models, neural nets and Bayesian approaches has a long tradition in our department. Collaboration and exchange of information is already underway in the form of common seminars.
