Surface-bulk effects in finite-strain elasticity

This project aims to enhance and expand the use of variational methods in describing interactions between surfaces and bulk materials in the context of the finite elasticity of solids. Our primary objective is to advance existing research on the existence of solutions for both static and evolutionary problems and to identify conditions that allow for appropriate semicontinuity properties of energy functionals. In addition, we will investigate the solvability of time-dependent problems that describe accretive growth in both finite and infinitesimal strain settings. Finally, we will develop efficient numerical algorithms for computational experiments and numerical analysis. Our research will significantly extend the current knowledge in the mathematical continuum mechanics of solids.
