Biological control of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (Coleoptera: Cucujidae) by Cephalonomia tarsalis (Hymenoptera : Bethylidae)

Project goals

Beyond the direct damage, the stored pests infesting the food are potentially dangerous for consumers by allergens,pathogens and toxins production. Increasing demand of consumers to food quality and safety is reflected by storedproduct protected measurestargeted to minimize use of pesticides to essential level and maximize use of alternativeprotective methods. The upcoming new effective and alternative control of stored pests is more important today than inthe past and the biological control is part ofthese methods. The aim of this project is (1) to define temperature dependent developmental parameters of the parasitic wasp Cephalonomia tarsalis and its host Oryzaephilus surinamensis, the key pest of stored grains (2) to define the functional response of the Cephalonomia tarsalis attacking larvae of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (3) to evaluate the effect of low molecular weight amylase inhibitor acarbose and Cephalonomia tarsalis on Oryzaephilus surinamensis and (4) the possible

    Skladištní škůdci působí vedle hmotnostních ztrát požerem, přímé ohrožení zdraví lidí v důsledku kontaminace skladovaných produktů patogeny, alergeny a toxiny. Poptávka po kvalitních a zdravotně nezávadných potravinách vyžaduje zavádění nových postupů ochrany, které budou splňovat kritérium účinnosti a bezpečnosti potravin. Biologická ochrana je jednou z cest nabízející způsob řešení tohoto problému. Předkládaný návrh projektu si klade za cíl zjistit teplotní charakteristiky vývoje Cephalonomia tarsalis, vosičky parazitující na Oryzaephilus surinamensis, klíčovém škůdci skladovaných obilovin. Dále zjistit teplotní charakteristiky vývoje tohoto škůdce, sestavit modely vývoje pro oba druhy a definovat funkční odpověď Cephalonomia tarsalis vzhledem k Oryzaephilus surinamensis. Zjistit vliv acarbosy a kombinace acarbosy s Cephalonomia tarsalis na Oryzaephilus surinamensis a zpětný vliv této kombinace na růstové parametry Cephalonomia tarsalias.
