Role of adhesion-GPCRs during viral infection of mammalian cells

Project goals

Project objectives include: -To analyze changes in expression of aGPCRs and/or proteins involved in aGPCR pathways between infected and uninfected cells using mass spectrometry -To evaluate effect of selected aGPCRs and/or proteins involved in aGPCR pathways on viral replication -To identify and to characterize viral proteins interacting with aGPCRs and/or proteins involved in aGPCR pathways

We determined upregulated expression of two adhesion GPCRs in lung cells during SARS-CoV-2 infection. After downregulation of their endogenous levels in lung cells we observed reduction in SARS-CoV-2 replication and infectivity. Thereby we accomplished main goal of our project to show that aGPCRs may have a role during viral infections.
