Entomopathogenic nematodes (Steinernematidae and Heterorhabditidae), Czech and Chinese fauna and their possibilities in biological control of insect pests.
Project goals
Entomopathogenic nematodes belong to parasitic animals adapted to insect hosts. They are able to kill hosts in 48 hr after penetration to their body cavity. The main objective is a survey of entopathogenic nematodes of the Czech Republic and China, isolation of new nematode strains and species, their characterization and description. These isolates will be tested against target insect pest and the most effective eventually in Chinese glasshouses. These nematodes are used in biological control of insectsand several nematodes species are multiplies on the great scale and applied in the field. Czech and Chinese scientists published many papers and some books concerning entomopathogenic nematodes.

Project name in Czech
Entomopatogenní hlístice (Steinernematidae a Heterorhabditidae), česká a čínská fauna a jejich možnosti v biologické ochraně rostlin před hmyzími škůdci.
Annotation in Czech
Hlavním cílem je přehled entomopatogenních hlístic České republiky a Číny, srovnání fauny obou států, izolace nových kmenů resp. druhů a jejich popis ve vědeckém časopise. Dále testování některých, nejvíce patogenních kmenů, resp. druhů proti škůdcům.

Project results evaluation
The project deals with the study of entomopathogenic nematodes from the family Steinernematidae and Rhabditidae, including description of new nematode species, their morphological and genetic characterization and eventual using of these nematodes for thebiological control of important insect pests.
