Development of new TiAl based intermetalics showing improved mechanical properties on the basis of microstructure control by thermo-mechanical process

Project goals

The aim of the project is to analyse the role of selected parameters in crack propagation mechanism in predominantly lamellar microstructures of TiAl based intermetalics focusing effort also on controlled processing of these microstructures by means of mechanical and thermal treatment.

  • Annotation in Czech

Cílem projektu je analyzovat úlohu vybraných mikrostrukturních součástí při šíření trhliny v převážně lamelárních strukturách slitin na bázi TiAl, přičemž vlastní příprava těchto struktur je současně předmětem výzkumu.

  • Project results evaluation

Role of selected microstructural variables in predominantly lamellar microstructures of intermetallic TiAl alloy has been analysed. Mechanisms of beta phase stabilisation applying thermal and mechanical-thermal procedures have been followed. Enhancementof strength and fracture properties has been proved. Positive effect of beta phase on toughness has been shown, namely at increased temperatures.
