The role of inflammation in the pathogenesis of diabetes and organ damage: possibilities of pharmaceutical interventions

Project goals

The project is focused on the analysis of the role of inflammatory processes in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications in patients with type 2 diabetes and heart failure. We will specifically study the anti-inflammatory effects of metformin. In addition, in transgenic spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) expressing human C-reactive protein, we will test the effects of metformin or combinations of statins with fibrates or niacin on amelioration of target organ damage.

Úloha zánětlivých procesů v patogenezi diabetu a orgánového poškození: možnosti farmakologické intervence
