Utilization of biotechnological methods and non-traditional genetic resources for the characterization and construction of uniform lines of cruciferous vegetables with specific parameters of quality, yield and resistance to significant diseases
Project goals
The project represents a unique interconnection of academic, research and breeding facilities aimed at introducing modern methods into practical breeding of Brassica vegetables. The aim of the project is to optimize, introduce and use advanced procedures to create uniform, homozygous materials of Brasica vegetables with the desired product quality and, with the help of effective techniques, to select materials and other genetic resources with specific quality, with resistance to the most important diseases of cruciferous vegetables to improve the breeding process of cruciferous vegetables.

Project name in Czech
Využití biotechnologických metod a netradičních genetických zdrojů k charakterizaci a tvorbě uniformních linií brukvovité zeleniny se specifickými parametry kvality, výnosu a rezistence k významným chorobám
Annotation in Czech
Projekt představuje unikátní propojení akademických, výzkumných a šlechtitelských pracovišť na poli zavádění moderních a u zelenin dosud nevyužívaných metod a postupů (molekulárních a biotechnologických) do praktického šlechtění. Cílem projektu je optimalizovat, zavést a využít pokročilé technologie k tvorbě uniformních, zcela homozygotních materiálů brukvovité zeleniny s požadovanou kvalitou produktu a pomocí efektivních postupů u nich a u dalších dostupných genových zdrojů vytipovat materiály se specifickými znaky kvality, odolnější k nejdůležitějším chorobám brukvovité zeleniny a tím zefektivnit šlechtitelský proces u brukvovitých zelenin.

Project results evaluation
The outputs were achieved. The total number of outputs reflects high professional expertise of the investigators involved and top quality of the project. The obtained results are easily applicable in practice, which has been proven also by the concluded contract on the application of outputs. Another example of practicality of the project outputs is the established and characterised collection of genetic resources of Brassica vegetables - varieties as well as breeding materials. This pool of genetic resources is available at the Genebank of the Crop Research Institute in Olomouc and Moravoseed CZ breeder. Resistance traits under the controlled and field conditions will also be available in the Genebank database. The results of microsatellite and genetic diversity analyses of the collection are available at the investigator's workplace, at the breeding workplace, and will be used to update the Genebank database.
