The article gives short information about preliminary tests of Friction Spot Welding technique in VZLÚ, Plc. Realized experiments were focused mainly on friction spot welding of A5754 aluminium automotive sheet. The influence of tool rotational speed, plunge rate and tool geometry on bond formation, tensile and cross-tensile strength of the resulting joints have been studied. In frame of the R&D works new unique tool geometry with secondary cone shoulder located inside probe was developed.
