Surface Ozone trends at the Czech Regional stations

  • Original language description

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute arranges the Czech Republic?s participation in the GAW and EMEP programmes. Monitoring is performed at regional stations in Košetice (GAW and EMEP) and Svratouch (EMEP). Both of the stations were included in the CHMI?s Automatic Monitoring of Ambient Air Pollution network in 1992. The task of this study is to evaluate the trends of surface ozone concentrations at the regional scale in the Czech Republic in the period 1992-2003 and to describe the role of very hotsummer 2003. Summer 2003 was one of the hottest in the history of meteorological measurements in the Central Europe and the conditions for the creation of surface ozone were extremely favourable. Situations in which there is a rapid increase in surface ozone concentration, which then has a negative effect on human health, usually occur in longer periods with typical summer weather (extreme temperatures, cloudless days, high intensity of solar radiation).
