Ultrasound-guided femoral venipuncture for catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation
Original language description
This retrospective study compared major vascular complication (MVC) rates between ultrasound-guided venipuncture (USGV) and anatomical landmark-guided femoral venipuncture during catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF). Analyzing 4,646 procedures, the USGV group showed significantly fewer MVCs and reduced need for surgical intervention despite having older patients with more comorbidities. Multivariate analysis identified USGV, younger age, and greater body height as factors associated with lower MVC rates. The findings support the routine use of ultrasound guidance for safer vascular access in AF ablation procedures.
