Universal drying chamber for flood-damaged paper objects
Original language description
An universal drying chamber for water-damaged library and archival materials has been constructed 2003-2005 at the National library of the Czech republic. It enables the implementation of three different drying methods: vacuum drying, vacuum freeze drying, and drying in controlled humidity and temperature atmosphere. To prevent distortion of books during treatment, they are placed in vertical stacks interleaved by innovated heating tiles that allow the setting and the maintenance of a selected temperature independently in each stack. Experimental results regarding temperature and relative humidity at different points of the chamber load during the drying process are presented.
