The chapter is an attempt to return to the question of the ages and sexes in the Předmostí sample, through the application of methods for assessment age at death and sex appropriate to the analysis of fossil materials. The authors? approach stems from the fundamentals and methodological recommendations summarised more generally for sex diagnosis by Bruzek and Murail (2006), and for the determination of sex in fossil material by Henry-Gambier et al. (2002) and Brůžek et al. (2006). For age estimation, the authors rely on the conclusions of Schmitt (2001) and Gambier et al. (2006).The fundamental differences between the approaches to sex identification used today andthose applied in the first half of the last century, when the human fossil series from Předmostí was studied, arise out of changes in the paradigm and in statistical processing.

Czech description

Cílem kapitoly bylo opět pohlédnout na informace o věku a pohlaví populační skupiny z Předmostí. Byly aplikovány takové metody odhadu věku dožití a pohlaví, které jsou vhodné pro současnou analýzu fosilního materiálu. Vycházelo se ze zásad a metodologických doporučení, které shrnuli obecně pro pohlavní diagnozu Bruzek and Murail (2006) a Brůžek et al. (2006). Odhad věku dožití se opíral závěry Schmit (2001) a Gambier et al. (2006). Zásadní rozdíly mezi přístupy k určení pohlaví mezi současností a prvnípolovinou minulého století, tj. dobou kdy byla studována série fosilií z Předmostí, spočívají ve změně paradigmatu a ve statistickém zpracování.
