The study mainly focuses on the work of the contemporary Chinese filmmaker, photographer and video artist, Yang Fudong, especially on two of his films, Seven Intellectuals in a Bamboo Forest (2003-2007) and No Snow on the Broken Bridge (2006). The work of this contemporary Chinese artist should help me to examine the relationship between the traditional Chinese art and thought and contemporary Chinese art based on the tradition, but also reflecting the artistic, philosophical and sociological influencesof the 20th century western culture.
