The present study was undertaken to provide more information on the nucleolar size and density in mononucleolar blastic granulocytic precursors represented by HL-60 cells the proliferation of which was blocked by photodynamic treatment (PDT) which induced apoptotic process without preceding terminal maturation. Arrest of cell proliferation of HL60 cells by photodynamic treatment induced an apoptotic process that was not paralleled by changes in the nucleolar size and density. Large and dense nucleoli inapoptotic cells are not related to the nucleolar biosynthetic or cell proliferation activity.

Zastavení proliferace buněk HL60 fotodynamickou terapií indukovalo apoptotický proces, avšak nukleolární velikost a densita se u apoptotických buněk ve srovnání s kontrolami nezměnila. Velké a densitní nukleoly u apoptotických buněk nejsou spojeny s biosyntetickou či proliferační aktiviotou.
