A short cytochemical note on the nucleolar and cytoplasmic RNA concentration in differentiating cells represented by human erythroblasts

  • Original language description

The computer assisted RNA image densitometry at the single cell level clearly indicated a similar RNA density in both nucleoli and cytoplasm in the course of the whole differentiation and maturation of erythroblasts. Therefore, the ratio of nucleolar tocytoplasmic RNA image density was very constant and almost the same in early as well as late erythroblasts. On the other hand, the nucleolar size in erythroblasts during differentiation and maturation markedly decreased. Thus the nucleolar RNA amount inerythroblasts depends mainly on the nucleolar size than nucleolar concentration.
