Promising activity of mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitors in hematologic malignancies therapy

  • Original language description

The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) is a downstream mediator of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt (protein kinase B) signaling pathway which regulates cell survival and proliferation. mTOR is a highly conserved serine/treonine kinase involved in the control of cell growth, protein synthesis, and cell cycle progression. Inhibitor of mTOR pathway have antiproliferative properties in hematological malignancies and are studied in therapeutic trials
