The heterochromatin condensation state in peripheral "gene poor" and central "gene rich" nuclear regions of less differentiated and mature human leukemic cells

  • Original language description

As it is generally known, the heterochromatin is an useful marker of the cell differentiation and maturity including their pathology. The goal of the study was to provide more information on the heterochromatin ? DNA ? condensation state in nuclear genepoor periphery and central gene rich nuclear regions of single proliferating progenitors and mature of human leukemic cells in situ. The results indicated that in central nuclear regions the heterochromatin condensation state is larger than at the nuclear periphery. During the cell differentiation and maturation the heterochromatin condensation state in the nuclear periphery increased and reached the same density as in the central nuclear regions. Since the heterochromatin possesses dormant genes it seems to be likely that it represents a further possibility of the genome conservation and stability in both regions of the cell nucleus.
