Palaeontology, sedimentary environments and climatic indices of the Klobuky Horizon (Líně Formation, Upper Pennsylvanian, Kladno-Rakovník Basin, Czech Republic)

  • Original language description

The Klobuky Horizon yielded Stephanian C megaflora, fauna and palynoflora. To date 38 plant species is known from the Klobuky locality. Ferns are dominant plant group. Sphenopsids are locally common. Medullosan pteridosperms are rare with exception of relatively common Odontopteris schlotheimii. Cordaitalean leaves are only locally common. Both conifers and lycopsids are very rare. Fauna is represented by 15 species. Trace fossils are very rare at Klobuky. Sedimentary facies and processes interpreted innew excavations include progradation of lacustrine nearshore sand bodies over offshore mudstones, swamp/coal sedimentation. Fossiliferous finely laminated muddy limestones are interpreted as lacustrine offshore deposits. Sedimentological, faunistic andfloristic record at the end of the Stephanian demonstrates increasing seasonality and protraction of dry periods. The Klobuky Horizon with a coal seam represents exception with longer humid period and belong to Sphenophyllum angustifolium
