EU critical raw materials in the Czech Republic – Cínovec (Zinnwald) ore district
Original language description
Critical raw materials in the Czech Republic have been studied under the frame of the project Competence Centre for Effective and Ecological Mining of Mineral Resources. The detail study was focused on the Czech part of the Cínovec (Zinnwald) ore district. Type ore samples from the boreholes were evaluated using a QEMSCAN technique. All studied samples have shown a good liberation of Li-micas. The highest liberation was attained in greisens (89%). Liberation of fluorite showed the highest values in greisens and liberation of topaz in the Zinnwald granite. Residual cassiterite, columbite, scheelite and REE-bearing minerals are very difficult to be liberated due to small size of grains (< 75 µm) and are predominantly bound to Li-micas. Contents of lithium (2360-7840 ppm) from Cínovec (Zinnwald) ores are predominantly contained in zinnwaldite.
