Following the successful Basalt 2013 meeting held in Görlitz, the Basalt 2017 conference focused on extensive Cenozoic magmatism across Europe from a multi-faceted perspective of all relevant disciplines of geosciences, including physical volcanology, mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry, geophysics, geohazards, and geoheritage. Contributions presented new discoveries and developments in the understanding of this important period of geologic history of Europe. The meeting has also served as an important platform for exchanging scientific ideas and fostering international collaboration.
