Turonian and Coniacian Calcareous Nannofossils of the Awgu Formation, Calabar Flank, Southeastern Nigeria
Original language description
Calcareous nannofossils show the presence of Lower Turonian shales with Lucianorhabdus maleformis (UC7 zone), Middle-Upper Turonian shales with Marthasterites furcatus and Eiffellithus eximius (UC8 zone), and Lower-Middle Coniacian with ?Micula staurophora and Eiffellithus nudus (UC10 zone). The presence of Gartnerago obliquum and thoracosphaers indicates shallow sea with close contact with the open sea. Braarudosphaera bigelowii points to possible supply o f terrestrial material. The revision of an internal report by Stradner and Cepek (1980) showed that the stratigraphical conclusions are nearly the same.
