    Freezing tolerance is induced by cold hardening process, which is accompanied with many physiological changes such as dry weight accumulation. The role of ABA in cold hardening is not quite clear. Drought treatment accompanied with ABA accumulation increased the freezing tolerance of plants only in some cases. Cold hardening induced freezing tolerance accompanied with dry weight accumulation and osmotic potential decrease. Changes in ABA content were not observed in these leaves. Drought treatment induced only negligible increase of freezing tolerance and of dry weight accumulation in the leaves. The ABA content transiently increased at the onset of drought treatment. The role of ABA in induction of freezing tolerance could be mediated via different mechanisms in cold or drought hardened plants.

    Mrazuvzdornost byla indukována u ozimého ječmene Lunet chladem a byla doprovázena akumulací sušiny a poklesem osmotického potenciálu. Hladina kyseliny abscisové se v průběhu otužování rostlin významně neměnila. Naproti tomu sucho výrazně zvýšilo obsah ABA, ale jen nepatrně mrazuvzdornost rostlin, což poukazuje, že ABA působí odlišnými mechanismy během otužování chladem a suchem.
