Two different molecular markers, RAPD and AFLP, were used to investigate genetic diversity among five Smallantus sonchifolius (yacon) genotypes. A total of 85 RAPD and 133 AFLP polymorphic bands were scored among genotypes analyzed. Cluster analysis based on each molecular marker data showed two main groups that includes the same genotypes. The results suggest that both molecular markers applied are useful to investigate intraspecific genetic variability in Smallantus sonchifolius.
