Progression of DON concentrations in spikes and kernels was studied in relation to Fusarium head blight (FHB) symptoms in five winter wheat cultivars, differing in resistance to FHB, after single floret inoculation with aggressive isolate of Fusarium culmorum. After inoculation in field conditions the spikes were detached from the plant and kept in the greenhouse under controlled conditions. High concentrations of DON were in susceptible cultivars detected at an early stage of pathogenesis (7 days afterinoculation). Over the whole examined 21 day period and also at maturity spikes contained more DON than kernels. While differences between cultivars in accumulation of DON were highly expressed already 7 days after inoculation, differences in symptomatic reaction were not clear until 21 days. Owing to reported decisive role of DON at early stages of pathogenesis, it is highly stressed the importance of proper timing of fungicide application.

Nárůst koncenrace DON v klasech a zrnench odrůd pšenice ozimé po infekci Fusarium culmorum

Czech description

Nárůst obsahu deoxynivalenolu (DON) v klasech a zrnech pšenice byl studován ve vztahu k symptomům choroby po infekci metodou "single floret" u 5 odrůd pšenice ozimé lišících se v úrovni rezistence. Klasy byly po infekci v polních podmínkách odstřiženy apěstovány v regulovaných podmínkách. Vysoká koncentrace DON u náchylných odrůd byla zjištěna 7 dní po infekci. Symptomy byl zřejmé později. Z provedeného pokusu je zřejmé, že aplikaci fungicidu je třeba provést v době květu pšenice
