Application of mineral fertilizer in the ridge in potato cultivation
Original language description
This paper introduces results of the field trials (2008-2010) studying various methods of application of mineral fertilizers in potato cultivation. Ammonium sulphate, Alzon (urea with nitrification inhibitor) and UREAstabil (urea with urease inhibitor) were applied in the ridge at planting or broadcast before planting. Potato tuber yield, nitrogen uptake in potatoes and nitrate nitrogen in soil during vegetation were studied. Nitrogen recovery in plants from fertilizers placed in the ridge was measuredby using fertilizers labelled 15N in micro-plots experiment. The soakage groove was made on top of the ridge for the retention of more rainwater, improving moisture conditions within the ridge and increasing N use efficiency from applied fertilizers. Asassumed, this ridge shape treatment positively affected use efficiency of nutrients from applied fertilizers and obtained tuber yields above all in seasons with normal to below normal precipitation, when water was limiting factor.
